Our anniversary with Amaro Averna. There are flavours, habits and memories that remain inside and you take with you wherever you are and you know that they are forever and they will never change. And when you taste them again, you think that they are always a pleasure and they will always be part of you!
“Averna, il gusto pieno della vita” – lit. the full taste of life – is the famous slogan to which we Italians always associate Amaro Averna. After so many years here in Vienna, in this special year for us, I decided to celebrate our anniversary with an all-Italian flavour. Waiting for our upcoming Italian holidays, I thank Averna for being part of these precious moments, so authentic and traditional, and for bringing us a little of Sicilian sunshine in this Viennese summer that is acting up!
I had much fun organizing an all-Italian and Mediterranean dinner: aubergine Parmigiana like my grandmother used to cook and the typical Sicilian sweets such as Cassata and Cannoli. Fabulous! Certainly, Amaro Averna could not miss to fully enjoy these moments. We love it as after-dinner, adding some herbs and a peel of lemon or orange, of course from Sicily! According with its unchanged centenary recipe, they enhance its citrus notes and hint of Mediterranean flavours. The result is a fresh, velvety and rounded texture with a very smooth bitter that I find perfect to accompany with fruits and sweets. Closed my eyes I have felt the sun of Sicily and its flavours, full of colours as genuine as Averna ancient tradition!
