Das Kappel, Winzer and Wellness Hotel. If I had to briefly describe my weekend in Southern Styria, I would say: wine tasting, wellness and nature. I was at the “Das Kappel” Winzer and Wellness Hotel and had the opportunity to visit southern Styria for a while. I dreamed about it for so long…I felt so lucky to explore the wine region and at the same time take a relaxing break. The landscape reminded me of the Italian Prosecco region (which is close to my home town) and therefor it has gained a special place in my heart. I will definitely be back soon!
Das Kappel is a lovely family-run hotel on top of the Weinberg in Kitzeck im Sausal with an exceptional view all over the vineyards and the valley. From the balcony of my room I had an amazing view! It was such a pleasure to wake up and enjoy this magical panorama in the morning. Even if the weather was inclement, I spent my days at Das Kappel really well.
There are a beauty spa with Vinoble beauty products and a beautiful wellness area with everything you need: two swimming pools, the outdoor one with sea water and panorama and the indoor one with Jacuzzi and a waterfall, two saunas and two steam baths.
In addition to the panoramic swimming pool, my highlight was the first Styrian Winzersauna: a cozy chalet with a breathtaking view of the vineyards and the Sausal Valley. No, actually I have more than one highlight: I also really enjoyed the Jacuzzi in my room!
On Sunday the owner, Mr. Kappel, showed us his winery and wine production. This was really interesting! Thanks to the favorable climatic conditions and the richness of the soil, combined with a wise knowledge, they are able to produce 9 different wines, mostly white. My favorite is without a doubt their Riesling!
They also have a picnic area in their vineyards and offer an exclusive candlelight dinner in the cellar or on the terrace surrounded by the idyllic landscape. We wanted to try the dinner on the terrace, but the weather was too unstable…but okay, it’s nature :).
Regional ingredients round the hotel offer. The breakfast offered a small but refined selection of gastronomic specialties, fresh homemade bread and a wide choice of fruit juices. As I told you in my stories, I felt like being in heaven on earth: such a wide choice of homemade jams! Unbelievable! I promised my husband to make the elderflower jam next year!
For dinner, the restaurant serves a good selection of regional and reinterpreted traditional dishes. If you prefer, you can also choose the special Winzer Menu or Winzerin Menu with a wine accompaniment. I think I had by far the best Cabernet Sauvignon since I lived in Austria!
Have you already visited southern Styria and are you a wine lover? Das Kappel is a great choice! I warmly recommend it to all of you! The next interesting event is, for example, the Weinberg Brunch on 21 October.
