Vicenza is a city I have always loved. Not far from my hometown, it is strategically located to organize a nice tour that includes the most famous cities of Verona, Padua and Venice, hill trips with wine tastings and visits to the beautiful Palladian Villas. Vicenza is known as the city of Palladio, an incredible Renaissance Italian architect who has influenced the world architecture for many years. I wilt to talk about him because he always inspires me too. Vicenza is also known as the city of jewelry with a ancient tradition and mastery of goldsmith.
I suggest you to get lost along its small streets of the historic center, rich in history and so characterized by the typical architectural accent dominated by the Republic of Venice.
Small towns in the surroundings but at the same time interesting and rich in history are also Marostica, Cittadella, Castelfranco Veneto or Bassano del Grappa (famous for its Grappa).
A good idea to explore the area is to stay in a central strategic point of this incredible territory, as we have done. I would warmly recommend the town of Abano Terme, on the outskirts of Padua, where you can regenerate with some therapeutic mud or just a day at the spa! We stayed at the Abano Ritz Hotel Wellness Resort. (Read more)
What absolutely to do and visit in Vicenza:
Teatro Olimpico (Olympic Theatre), constructed in 1580-1585, is the final design by the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio with an amazing trompe – l’œil onstage scenery, installed in 1585 and designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, to give the appearance of long streets receding to a distant horizon. Incredible stunning and unique!
Piazza dei Signori & Basilica Palladiana (Palladian Basilica) is the famous Reinassance building in the central Piazza dei Signori designed by Andrea Palladio.
Museo del gioiello (Firt Jewelry Museum in Italy) Located inside the Palladian Basilica, offers a interesting insight in the world of ancient, ethnic and modern jewelery, with an original perspective, divided by themes more than ages.
Aperitivo in centro (Aperitivo in the historical center) I love stopping by La Meneghina, Fiaschetteria da Renzo and Enoteca Veneta-La Prosseccheria. Order a glas of Prosecco, focaccia and the best Italian cold cuts! You will love these places!
Villa “La Rotonda” It is for me the most beautiful Palladian Villa I have visited, panoramic and very scenic, a few steps from the center of Vicenza. A must to know and see, as much as the Olympic Theatre!
