With this post I will try to summarize what to do in Milan. I will not write you the usual known tourist attractions that you can all know but I will try to give you some personal recommendations that I myself have appreciated or I regularly visit. I hope it is useful for you and let me know if you have a beloved place or something that I absolutely have to do in Milan! Check also my Milan highlights on my Instagram account Valentina in Shorts.
1. Visit Museo del Novecento
Located in Piazza del Duomo, the main square, the Museum is dedicated to the art of the 20th century and offers a selection of more than 400 artworks. Fontana, Picasso, Georges Braque, Klee, Kandinsky, Boccioni, Balla, Depero, De Chirico, Morandi are just few of artists you can admire! Please visit the Museo del Novecento!!
2. Have a dinner in a traditional Milanese restaurant.
One I really appreciated is for sure Osteria Brunello (direct Link) in Corso Garibaldi. The menu offers dishes made respecting the seasonality of products. You will find great classics such as risotto alla milanese and their workhorse, “la vera cotoletta alla milanese”, the Milanese Cutlet, award-winning and winner among other things of the title “Best milanese cutlet” from Gambero Rosso. The winery is composed of more than two hundred selected labels. Worth the visit but be careful and reserve a table in advance.
3. Visit Palazzo della Triennale and have lunch at Terrazza Triennale
La Triennale di Milano is an international cultural institution which organises exhibitions and conferences as well as hosting arts, design, architecture, fashion. Enjoy a tour and have a lunch at Michelin Starred Terrazza Triennale (direct link), their panoramic restaurant on the rooftop and then walk to Castello Sforzesco across the Sempione Park.
4.Enjoying the “Aperitivo” and Italian lifestyle
The “aperitivo” is our Italian happy hour, from about 6pm to 8 or 9pm and normally you get a drink and buffet for a good price (usually 10 euro). The happy hour is very popular in Milan so there are many of great places where enjoying it. I love the area of Navigli, especially on summer during sunsets and the Terrazza Aperol (direct link) with amazing view all over the Duomo Cathedral Square. Enjoy the Aperitivo time for having a glimpse of the Milanese lifestyle!
5.Visit the Golden Triangle
This is the Milan’s famous shopping streets, Via Monte Napoleone, Via della Spiga and those that run between them. As in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, here you will find the country’s famous designer shops. Even If you are not a shopping addict, there are also so many interesting shop interiors and window displays to be seen absolutely.
6. Stay in an authentic Milanese apartment.
The last time I was in Milan I had the pleasure of staying in a delicious airbnb that I also recommended to friends. It is called New design apartment (direct link) in Via Monviso Street and it is the property of a lovely and very kind Italian couple. In addition to having everything you need because you could really get there just with your wallet and two dresses, the interiors are lovey and well thought, is located in a quit area and close to the underground. I had there my best stay in Milano and I will back for sure!
